The UK will allocate additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of £1.3 billion ($1.6 billion). This was stated by British Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak, LBC reports.

“The UK is at the forefront of providing economic, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine, and we are working tirelessly to end this conflict,”— he noted.

Sunak stressed that Ukraine needs military support “for protection”.

The day before, US President Joe Biden announced that Washington would provide additional military assistance to Kyiv. The new package will include artillery munitions, radars and other equipment at an undisclosed cost.

Biden said his administration has “practically run out” funds that could be used to send military aid to Ukraine without congressional approval, and urged lawmakers to approve additional funding.

In early May, the office of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that London would send another batch of military aid worth $375 million to Kyiv.

Russia has been conducting a military special operation in Ukraine since February 24. Western countries, including the United States and Great Britain, began to supply weapons to Kyiv.

Moscow has repeatedly criticized Western countries for supplying Ukraine with weapons. State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called those who supply weapons to Kyiv war criminals. At the end of April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on the United States and NATO to stop the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine in order to resolve the crisis.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly pointed out that the Russian military may consider shipments of weapons from the United States and NATO on the territory of Ukraine as its legitimate military targets.

The National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, Jake Sullivan, in turn, indicated that Washington, despite the “Russian threats”, will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, since it is necessary for protection.

The Kremlin noted that Western weapons cannot “stop the offensive”; and will not prevent Russia from achieving the goals of the special operation.
