SZA Reacts To Grammy Nomination “Never Thought This Was Possible”
SZA is one of the most inspiring success stories in music this year.
The Top Dawg Entertainment singer/songwriter is the most nominated female artist at the 2018 Grammy Awards. She leads the women with five nominations including Best New Artist, Best R&B Song (Supermodel), Best R&B Performance (The Weekend), Best Urban Contemporary Album (Ctrl), and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (Love Galore). JAY-Z and her labelmate Kendrick Lamar leads the nominees with eight and seven nods respectively.
In a heartfelt message to her fans and supporters, SZA, real name Solána Imani Rowe, says that she never expected to get a Grammy nomination, not in her wildest dream. “I never really thought this would possible for me ..sometimes u get told no a lot or ur not good enough or ur not the “type” n U start to believe it…THANK U EVERY SINGLE PERSON THATS EVER TAKEN A CHANCE ON ME OR BELIEVED AT ALL .I LOVE YOU.. specially my Mama.#TDE,” she wrote on Twitter while also sharing a screenshot of a text message that she received from her mother.

“I? remember pretending to be vegan cause that’s all I? could afford lol (chips avocado n salad mix ) I? remember sleeping on everyone’s couch cause I missed the train AGAIN (thank yall for having me lol ),” she wrote on Instagram. “Sold my beloved 500$ grillz for 50 bucks at the gold shop for train fair( I? was SICK lol ). I? BEGGED Punch for writers on this project cus I? thought no one would ever like me the way I? was . He said “U don’t need em”. I? remember crying cus I? didn’t have any hits or a quantifiable “sound”.. I? remember feeling like damn maybe I suck . maybe I? should try something else ? Maybe I’m jus wasting space ..Life’s weird.”
SZA also spoke about not wanting to release her debut album because she was afraid of the disappointment.

SZA has had a great year and now she has more to celebrate after her single “The Weekend” goes platinum.
The TDE singer gets her platinum plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) just before she celebrated her 27th birthday on November 8th. The single is featured on her debut album CTRL, which was released in June of this year. The project has been doing well since its released and SZA is already prepping her next big project.
“YO YALL TOOK A SONG THT WASNT A F***ING SINGLE AND MADE IT PLATINUM!!!??” she tweeted excitingly. “AHH I LOVE U MORE THAN CHEESE! THANK U 4 THE BEST BDAY GIFT EVER.”
SZA previously earned another platinum record when her single with Travis Scott, “Love Galore”, sold more than a million copies in the United States. Her album CTRL is now certified gold and is on it’s way to getting platinum certification. She is also prepping her fans for a deluxe version of the album.
“Ummm NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE ONE UH THESE LET ALONE 2!! Thank u more than words !! Ya did it !! #TDE,” she wrote on IG.

Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna picked up and early Grammy award for Best Rap/Sung Performance for their collaboration “Loyalty.”
The track is featured on the TDE rapper’s new album DAMN., which has picked up a couple nominations including Album of the Year and Best Rap album. “This is love I appreciate every single one of ya’ll out there and TDE the crew Interscope,” Kendrick said before giving Rihanna a shout-out. “Hey Rihanna what’s up man, she came through and gas me on that record gas me on my own record man Rihanna this Grammy belong to you.”
Rihanna gave K-Dot props for allowing her to be on such an incredible record. “Thank you Kendrick for giving me this incredible opportunity to be on such a great record, I love this record, and be on it, congrats you deserve this award,” she said.
Kendrick Lamar received the award right after he kicked off the Grammys with an electrifying performance with U2 rock legend Bono and The Edge. K-Dot also won two early awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his single “HUMBLE.” The music video “HUMBLE” is also nominated for Video of the Year and is expected to win.
