Sanctions against Russia can only be lifted if it concludes an agreement with Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told t-online. According to the politician, this is “the only plausible possibility”, and we cannot talk about a “dictated peace”.

The chancellor also said that Germany insists on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. “Otherwise, a clear principle applies: Ukraine resolves these issues [about the lifting of restrictions]. We can't negotiate on their behalf anyway,” — he pointed out.

“We want to help Ukraine defend itself. And together with our allies, we want to ensure that Russia <…> withdrew its troops from the territory of Ukraine»,— Scholz said. Therefore, Western countries have imposed sanctions against Moscow, he added.
