Putin reduced the number of deputy prime ministers in the government

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reduced the number of vice-premiers of the government from 11 to ten. The head of state signed the corresponding decree on July 15.

The document provides for only one change to another presidential decree of January 21, 2020 “On the structure of federal executive bodies”: the words “11 deputies” replaced by “10 deputies”.

Just three days ago, on July 12, Putin increased the number of deputy prime ministers to 11 by his decree. At the same time, he submitted to the State Duma the candidacy of the current Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov to appoint Mikhail Mishustin to the post of Deputy Prime Minister. The State Duma had to approve him in this position, which happened at an extraordinary meeting of the chamber on July 15. On the same day, Putin signed a decree appointing Manturov to the post.

The number of deputy prime ministers has decreased due to the fact that, as RBC previously wrote, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov moved to work from the Cabinet of Ministers at Roskosmos. On July 15, Putin also signed a decree releasing Borisov from the post of Deputy Prime Minister and appointing him head of the space corporation.

The former head of Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin was removed from his post, also by Putin's decree. Rogozin headed Roskosmos from May 2018, before that, in 2011–2018, he was Deputy Prime Minister.

Earlier, on July 11, it became known about the return of State Duma deputies from vacation for an extraordinary meeting on July 15.

The last time Putin increased— up to ten number of vice-premiers in November 2020. Then Alexander Novak, who previously held the post of Minister of Energy, became Deputy Prime Minister.
