How was the Su-35 made a “flying radar” and taught to fly fighters?

The Su-35 as a flying headquarters will receive limited powers, since it is impossible to place a large amount of equipment on board. Its function will be to control several aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as to transmit target designations to various destruction systems.

Four with two pluses 

Su-35 — it is a powerful aircraft complex of the “4++” generation, which uses the technology of fifth generation fighters. This aircraft is now actively used by the Russian Aerospace Forces in Ukraine. The aircraft operates at low, medium and high altitudes in any weather and at any time of the day. A powerful airborne radar system provides detection of air targets at long ranges up to 350 km. The open architecture of building on-board equipment systems allows you to upgrade the aircraft and install various types of weapons. The Su-35 effectively fights ground targets, including without entering the enemy air defense coverage area. The onboard equipment of the fighter allows the use of weapons with maximum accuracy. The fighter has high maneuverability, which gives a serious advantage in close air combat.


A large number of hardpoints ensures the use of up to 12 air-class guided missiles in one sortie. air» medium range or six class “air — surface". Powerful guided and unguided rocket weapons are complemented by a 30 mm aircraft gun. Military Watch noted that Russian Su-35 fighters are superior to Ukrainian MiG-29s in terms of avionics, armament and survivability. Su-35 can use R-77 missiles outside the line of sight of the aircraft.

Customers and Tasks

The Su-35S is designed to gain air supremacy, destroy surface and ground targets with all types of weapons, as well as ground infrastructure facilities covered by air defense systems and located at considerable distances from the base airfield. It is capable of destroying manned and unmanned aerial vehicles with guided missiles at long, medium and short ranges, in long-range and short-range maneuvering battles, in autonomous and group operations.

The largest operator of the Su-35 is the Aerospace Forces of Russia . The Russian Ministry of Defense previously reported that the fighters are effectively performing the tasks of delivering high-precision strikes against military targets at low, medium and high altitudes, as well as intercepting air targets. The onboard equipment of the fighter allows the use of weapons with maximum accuracy.
