Girl critically injured, three dead after separate Melbourne stabbing and shooting

Three people are dead and a girl has been taken to hospital with critical injuries after a shooting and a stabbing in Melbourne on Thursday night.

Homicide detectives were first called to the stabbing at Mill Park in the city's north about 7:50pm.

Officers found a man, woman and a girl at the scene, who detectives believe all knew one another.

The woman died from her injuries and the girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The man, who was also critically injured, was taken to hospital under police guard.

Less than two hours later, police were called to Mordialloc in Melbourne's south-east, after reports of gunshots at a property on McDonald Street.

When the officers arrived, they found two people with critical injuries who died at the scene.

Following a search of the area, a man was arrested and interviewed by police.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else over the Mordialloc shooting.

Fatal house fire under investigation

Earlier in the evening, emergency services were called to a house fire on Wilshire Court in Endeavour Hills.

Firefighters arrived shortly after 6:30pm to find the house fully engulfed in flames.

They were able to rescue one person from the home, who was treated by paramedics, but found a man dead inside.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
