Former Alpha employee Alexander Plyusnin, who eliminated the Afghan dictator Hafizullah Amin in December 1979, died at 72. This is reported by the Council of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha anti-terror unit.
«The Council of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha anti-terror unit with deep regret announces that Alexander Nikolaevich Plyusnin died at the age of 73. The hero of the assault on Amin's palace,” the message says.
According to the council, during the assault on the Taj-Bek palace, Amin was mortally wounded by a fragment of a grenade thrown by Plyusnin. Information about this was closed for a long time, although the unit knew “who put the final point”; in the liquidation of the Afghan dictator.
«Council of the International Association of Veterans of the anti-terror unit «Alpha» expresses deep condolences to the relatives of his comrade,” the message says.
