Bulgaria continues to issue tourist visas to Russians, however, the terms for the provision of services have increased due to technical reasons, the Bulgarian embassy in Moscow reported, TASS reports.

“The consulate at the embassy is working, and the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens has not stopped. At the moment, due to technical reasons, we are working in an unusual mode, the terms for providing services are longer than usual, but we are working»,— specified in the diplomatic department.

Earlier, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia announced the suspension of the acceptance of Russian documents for tourist visas and visas for property owners at the Bulgarian consulate. According to ATOR, the consulate notified the tour operators of the decision, adding that it was temporary and was made “due to the current emergency.”

On August 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced a decision to expel 14 Bulgarian diplomats in response to the expulsion of 70 Russian diplomats by Sofia at the end of June. Also, the Bulgarian authorities temporarily closed the Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Varna, as well as the Russian Consulate General in Ruse due to lack of staff.

After these actions, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova allowed a break in diplomatic relations with Sofia and announced that she would ask the Russian leadership to close the embassy there. The decision on this issue will be taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The head of the Russian diplomatic department, Sergei Lavrov, has already noted that as a result of Bulgaria's actions, “the embassy is not able to work normally.” In turn, in the European Union, Russia's threat to close the diplomatic mission in Sofia was considered unfounded.

At the same time, at the end of July, Bulgarian Tourism Minister Hristo Prodanov indicated that the first five months of this year, the flow of tourists to the country from Russia increased by 3.9 times compared to the same period last year.
